Sjaak Koenis is Associate Professor at the Department of Philosophy of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Maastricht University, since 2002. He studied philosophy of science and political philosophy at the University of Groningen and works in Maastricht since 1994.
Between 2011 and 2016 he held a special chair in Social Philosophy at Maastricht University. He published on the history of social science, the Frankfurt School and 3 books about the history and current state of Dutch democracy. One of these has been translated into English: Voices of the People; Pluralism in Dutch Politics (1994-2014), VU University Press, Amsterdam, 2014. His most recent book is about democracy and populism: De januskop van de democratie; over de bronnen van boosheid in de politiek, Van Gennep, Amsterdam, 2016.
Sjaak Koenis lives in Bunde, is married and has two children.
