Refugees’ and Minorities’ Experiences with Divisive Stereotypes

Refugees as well as asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, and migrants coming from areas of conflict have often encountered extreme forms of divisive stereotypes, based on their experiences with persecution. This theme encompasses projects and research based on these first-hand experiences, as well as encompasses expertise directly from these individuals, in an effort to better understand such stereotypes and their impacts on people and communities. This theme also includes the direct experiences of non-migrants who have faced divisive stereotypes. Work within this theme may be in the form of auto-ethnographies, narratives, videos, photography, other artistic forms, to name just a few.
