Atif Rizvi speaks on Textbooks in Nigeria

Between 9 - 11 September 2014, CELL Executive Director Atif Rizvi presented a paper entitled, "To Create new texts, and reshape the Context’: Rationale for New Islamic Religious Textbooks in Nigeria" at the African Studies Association of the United Kingdom (ASAUK) conference at the University of Sussex.

Atif's paper explored the political and social priorities behind Islamic history textbooks between the years 2000-2014 in several African countries and revealed dramatic differences in the ways various sects of Islam were presented in these textbooks, reflecting local histories and policy interests of the state.
