On 2 February 2018, CELL's Principal Ayla Bonfiglio gave the keynote lecture at the Globalization and Migration Symposium, an annual conference organized by and for students studying Globalization and Development at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) at Maastricht University. The event saw more than 50 students in attendance.
Drawing on more than 200 interviews with refugees and migrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Somalia, Ayla lectured on the importance of higher education for refugees and migrants and how refugees’ and migrants' pursuit of such education can help us understand how they negotiate their displacement patterns and access protection.
